OUTSTANDING PHD RESEARCH THESIS AWARD AT HONG KONG GOES TO A NIGERIAN

28-year-old Ekiti born scholar named as a recipient of PhD outstanding research thesis award at the City University of Hong Kong

Dr. Ademiloye Adesola Samson was born in Okene, Kogi State about 28 years ago but hails from Itapa Ekiti, Ekiti State. He received his Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Civil Engineering with first class honors from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti in April 2013. He then proceeded to the City University of Hong Kong (_a top 1% university in the world and ranked 49th best university worldwide according to the 2018 QS ranking_) in September 2013 for his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Civil Engineering with computational structural mechanics as his specialization. His doctorate thesis titled _"Development of a multiscale Cauchy-Born framework for modeling the biomechanical properties of healthy and malaria-infected red blood cell membrane"_ was awarded the outstanding research thesis award (among a total of 6 awardees) by the City University of Hong Kong in September 2017. According to Dr. Ademiloye, the goal of his academic research is to explore the macroscopic mechanical behaviors of biological, structural and engineering materials through computational modeling and simulation based on their intrinsic microscopic (or atomistic) details. His current research interest includes structural engineering, computational mechanics, multiscale modeling, biomechanics, nanocomposite and numerical methods. Dr. Ademiloye's studies have been published in prestigious and top-tier academic journals, including Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering (CMAME), Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids (JMPS), Applied Mathematical Modelling (AMM) and Applied Mathematics and Computation (AMC), and presented at many leading international conferences.
Dr. Ademiloye is a recipient of various academic and research awards, such as Ekiti state government scholarship for talented students (2008 & 2009), CityU postgraduate studentship (2013 - 2017), CityU research tuition scholarship (2015 & 2016), CityU outstanding academic performance award (2015 & 2016), best student paper award at the 2016 IAENG International Conference on Scientific Computing, Hong Kong SAR and 2007 "efico" of the year award by Federation of Itapa Ekiti Student Union (FISU). He is a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), an associate member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Structural Engineering Institute (SEI - ASCE), Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI - ASCE), a graduate member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). He is a reviewer for some prestigious international journals and has served as organizing and programme committee member for various international conferences such as IMECS 2016 and IEEE BIBE 2017. Dr. Ademiloye has also served in various communal and religious capacities such as President, Association of Nigerian Scholars in Hong Kong (2015 - 2017), National Secretary, RCCG Hong Kong (2016 - present), Secretary and Vice-President, C&S Unification Campus Fellowship, EKSU (2010 - 2013), Electoral Committee Chairman, FISU (2013), Student union constitution review committee, EKSU (2012) and Assistant General Secretary, Civil Engineering Student Association, EKSU (2010) and so on. He is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at CityU under his doctoral degree supervisor, Professor KM Liew (_a highly cited researcher with over 28,000 citation and h-index of 84 according to Google Scholar_) and open to consider a new challenging role as a faculty member in top rated and high impact research-driven universities worldwide
